'It Is Too Soon:' Hundreds gather to mourn death of UNC student

ATHENS (AP) - Eve Carson had already lived a lifetime at 22, and yesterday, those who knew her celebrated that life and grieved the promise that was cut short by her sudden death.

Hundreds of mourners filled the Athens First United Methodist Church, spilling over into the church’s fellowship hall. It was a crowd of all ages and backgrounds, both from her hometown of Athens and from UNC Chapel Hill, where she was the student-body president.

During the service - which lasted nearly two hours - there were just as many references to her beauty, intelligence and leadership as to her kindness, dedication to service and concern for others.
