Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Citizens say yes to ABC, mixed drinks

PILOT MOUNTAIN (The Pilot) — Pilot Mountain voters said yes Tuesday to two referendums — one to allow an ABC Store to open in town and the other to allow mixed drinks to be sold in restaurants and bars in town.

“They said it was close, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades,” said Mayor Earl Sheppard as he left the polling site at the Charles H. Stone Memorial Library where all of the town’s voters cast their ballots.

Way to go Pilot Mountain!

It looks like they are serious about upgrading their image and their business environment. Let's hope they put this to good use.
