Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Governor election pits two old pros

McCrory, Perdue known for electability, but only one can continue streak

RALEIGH (Winston-Salem Journal) -
Beverly Perdue and Pat McCrory, the winners of the Democratic and Republican primaries for governor, are very good at winning elections.

Perdue, a Democrat has won all nine of her general-election races for lieutenant governor and state legislator.

McCrory, a Republican, has been the mayor of Charlotte for 14 years. Before that, he was a member of the Charlotte City Council for six years. He also has never lost an election.

Six months from now, one of their winning streaks will end.
