Weekend expectations high for Mayfest

PILOT MOUNTAIN (The Pilot) — Expectations are high for this weekend’s 26th annual Mayfest celebration with organizers looking for all-time highs in craft and food vendors and in the number of rides and games for youngsters.

Those numbers are the result of plenty of advance planning as the sponsoring Pilot Mountain Civic Club has used a Mayfest Committee to place groups of club members over each aspect of the weekend. The growth has been aided by a rearranging of spaces, moving amusement rides to the end of East Main Street to provide an enlarged children’s area. Vendor space on the street has also been increased with about 40 new spaces having been added.
