Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

On Women and Voting

By Steve Brenneis
Ars Mens Mentis

On reading some of the entries on this blog, one might reasonably conclude that I oppose allowing women to vote. This is not the case. I simply oppose allowing all women to vote, much the same as I oppose allowing all men to vote.

The seeds of democracy's self-destruction are sown in universal suffrage. Nothing makes this more obvious than the current crop of losers running for President of the United States. They are the ultimate product of the soccer-mom vote. Women with nothing more in mind than having the government help them parent will necessarily impose totalitarianism on the rest of us.

The Founders thought that men over the age of 21 who owned property were best suited to select their leaders. This hasn't changed except to say that I would not have a problem with including women of the same qualifications. And I don't mean women who are joint holders of property with their income-bearing husbands. Women who have acquired property through the fruits of their own labor are more likely to hold views leaning in the direction of liberty and a general distrust of government.

Think about it.
