Split Decision: Dole Opposes, Burr Supports Bailout Bill

(Fox 8 News) - North Carolina's senators are split on supporting a revised $700 billion bailout of the nation's financial industry.

Republican Sen. Elizabeth Dole told FOX8 News late Wednesday afternoon she will vote against the measure.

Dole said Wednesday the plan is "a government takeover of our economy with no protection for taxpayers." She does consider the relief package an improvement over a proposal that failed earlier this week in the House.

Fellow Republican Sen. Richard Burr will vote for the updated version of the bailout, but admits he's reluctant

"We've made some changes that will hopefully accommodate some of the requests," said Burr.
