Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Nancy Reynolds school to be open

From the Winston-Salem Journal: On Wednesday, the staff at Nancy Reynolds Elementary school will give alumni and other members of the community the chance to stroll the halls and reminisce one last time.

The school will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, the last day of the school year.

The school, which the Reynolds tobacco family built and donated to the community in 1923, will be torn down.

A new school will be built with an exterior that is similar to the old one.
