Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Obama plans fewer cleanups

Bush completed more Superfund sites

WASHINGTON (AP) - For years, the Bush administration was criticized for not cleaning up enough of the nation's most contaminated waste sites. The Obama administration plans to do even less.

Environmental groups and some Democratic congressmen railed against President George W. Bush's cleanup record. But this time, they are shying away from speaking out against a popular president who is considered an ally in the fight to clean up the environment.
