Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update: Post This!
From Rush Limbaugh: Well, the early results are in, folks, and they are surprising. The liberal mecca of the East Coast, New York City, was first in the country to require that fast food joints post calorie information on their menus. West Coast liberals in California and Seattle followed suit.
During the battle to pass the law, liberals claimed that forcing restaurants to comply would help solve obesity and diabetes problems, particularly among the poor. The prediction was: once armed with caloric information the evil fast food franchises kept secret, the poor would hold the fries, and the high-calorie burgers, and opt for a healthy salad (which can now kill you, by the way) -- or much on a piece of celery (which could also kill you, according to the Center for Science in the Public Interest).
Well, New York University and Yale professors have tracked customers at McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken in poor New York neighborhoods with high rates of obesity and diabetes. As I said, the results are surprising. Half the poor customers said they noticed the calorie information. And 28% of them said the information influenced their meal choices. Of those, 90% said they were eating healthier. So yip, yip, yahoo -- it worked!
Except one slight problem: fast food receipts revealed that, in fact, the poor had ordered slightly more calories than before the law went into effect.
It's just one more liberal pipe dream -- deep-fried, flame broiled, and charred by reality... and reality bites. So hold the salt and pass the stupidity: the liberals just walked in the door.
