Artist's restored mill in Stokes serves as his home and studio

The former raceway for the old mill, now Tony Craig's home, stands empty and dry, Tues., June 29, 2010.

WESTFIELD (Winston-Salem Journal) - Since it was built in 1880, a building on the bank of Big Creek in Stokes County has been a grist mill, a parachute factory, a garment mill and a dilapidated husk.

And in its latest incarnation, the durable building has become a combination home and artist's studio for Tony Craig.

Craig, 42, who is from Albermarle, is an animator. He has worked as an illustrator, director and producer on projects for such companies as Walt Disney and Warner Bros. He is currently working on a new Looney Tunes series that will premiere this fall.
