Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update: Arizona

Rush Limbaugh: I know liberals. Among the many accurate things I've said about liberals over the years, is this: Liberals use the judicial branch to achieve objectives they cannot win at the ballot box -- what happened yesterday was just one more example of that.

The day before the Arizona immigration law was to go into effect -- a law crafted by the citizens of Arizona's elected representatives -- one judge, appointed by Bill Clinton, gutted it. And here's the bottom line:

As of yesterday, in the state of Arizona, it's no longer illegal to be illegal. This is, once again, an activist decision -- not a judicial decision. Not a decision based on law, but, rather, based on the left's spin that law enforcement officers in Arizona are so biased, so incompetent, that they could not possibly avoid racial profiling while enforcing the law. That's what Judge Bolton meant when she said, "There is a substantial likelihood that officers will wrongfully arrest legal resident aliens... By enforcing this statute, Arizona would impose a 'distinct, unusual and extraordinary' burden on legal resident aliens that only the federal government has the authority to impose."

The judge also struck down the provision requiring people to carry identification documents -- well, some people. American citizens must carry our ID for all sorts of things: driving, banking, purchasing. But illegal aliens? Nah. They're now in a status by themselves: protected non-citizens.

Now, folks, we cannot wait for someone else to ride to the rescue. We are the cavalry... arriving in November.
