Burr Joins GOP Demand Against Andy Griffith TV Ad

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Sen. Richard Burr and four other Republican senators are burned up about a television ad featuring Andy Griffith to promote this year's health care overhaul law.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported today that the senators wrote Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius demanding the department drop the ad that started airing last week.

The senators complain the ad is using taxpayer money to push the overhaul Democrats championed.

The ad features Griffith telling seniors that "good things are coming" under the health care overhaul, including free preventive checkups and lower-cost prescriptions for Medicare recipients.

The ad is running on cable channels seniors watch, such as the Weather Channel, CNN, Hallmark and Lifetime.
