Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Is debris from Forsyth County schools being dumped in Stokes?

(By Leslie Bray Evans, The Stokes News) - The debate over putting a landfill just across the Stokes County line may be quiet right now, but debris from Forsyth County has managed to make its way into Stokes nonetheless. There is evidence that wastes from a demolition project at Latham Elementary School at 986 Hutton Street in Winston-Salem have been dumped on a property in Walnut Cove.

The property in question is at 861 Fowler Road in Walnut Cove and is owned by Mickey Gray Watson of Germanton. According to a communication from the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR), their office received a complaint on July 7 about the dumping.

On July 8, the Latham project was inspected by NCDENR. The waste was found to be sorted into three different types of material. Representatives from Webb Harrell Construction Services Corporation, headquartered in Rural Hall, claimed that the debris was being taken to a metal recycler, a Construction and Demolition (C&D) landfill and a Land Clearing and Inert Debris (LCID) landfill in northern Forsyth County.

NCDENR found that although a demolition permit and paperwork for asbestos and lead-based paint abatement had been turned in to the Solid Waste Section as requested, the actual location of disposal did not match the LCID disposal location listed on the demolition permit.

Hello, This message is for Leslie Bray Evans. What ever happened with the hazardous debris that Mickey Gray Watson Construction of Kernersville, NC hauled to Owner
ickey Gray Watson's property on Fowler Road in Walnut Cove, which is now the home of "Carolina Cattle Company"? My property is adjacent to his and what are the hazards to my property, air and water and HOW did he get a permit to do Any Dumping on Fowler Road without the neighbors being informed? Thanks
