WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WGHP) — One of the original K&W Cafeteria's employees is now retiring after 69 years of service at the restaurant.

Charlie Lee Brown, 83, was originally hired when he was 14-years-old by the brother of K&W's founder, Coy Allred, at the first K&W Cafeteria, located on Cherry Street in downtown Winston-Salem, in 1941.

According to a news release, Charlie said that he "wanted a job to earn enough money to buy himself a big hat and a nice suit to wear to church."

Charlie is now retiring due to health issues.
