Stokes County’s financial audit is complete - High ratings for Stokes but dark economic prognoses ahead

(By Leslie Bray, The Stokes News) - The Stokes County Board of Commissioners was presented with the annual county audit this month, and the results were positive. Shane Fox of Martin, Starnes and Associates, CPAs, P.A., was on hand at the Board’s early November meeting to tell the audit story.

Fox told them that Stokes had received an unqualified opinion which is the very best opinion that can be given; about half of the counties get that. There were no findings or questioned costs for the county, nor any significant deficiencies or material weaknesses identified. Fox couldn’t say enough about Stokes County’s Director of Finance Julia Edwards and her staff and coworkers; he acknowledged that they were “fully prepared and cooperative.”
