Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

VIDEO: State Owes Retiree Health Fund $32 Billion

Payments of $3 billion a year needed to keep promise to state workers

RALEIGH (By Anthony Greco, Carolina Journal Online) —
It would take annual payments of $3 billion over 30 years to bring that fund to solvency. Those payments and debt are not included in the $3 billion deficit openly discussed by political leaders. The fund pays the medical expenses of retired state employees until they are enrolled in Medicare. It also pays for any health benefits Medicare does not cover.

A handful of elected officials acknowledge the retiree portion of the State Health Plan is bankrupt.
