Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Durward Bennett retires from Sheriff’s Department

(By Leslie Bray, The Stokes News) - After 24 years of service in law enforcement (including four years in the military), Major Durward Bennett, Chief Deputy at the Stokes County Sheriff’s Department, is retiring, effective Jan. 1, 2011. Due to accumulated holiday time, his last day at work was Monday, Dec. 6. He was honored with a reception after the swearing in of the new government officials.
