Flying a flag at the Veterans Memorial in King - Applications are now being taken

(By Leslie Bray, The Stokes News) - The uproar over the removal of the Christian flag at the Veterans Memorial in King Central Park may be reaching an end. Now that the King City Council has passed a limited public forum policy, people may submit applications to the City to request that their choice of a flag will be flown for one week at the Memorial.

The application process began on Tuesday, Dec. 7, and will end on Monday, Dec. 20. (In coming years, the time frame will be Dec. 1-15.) A lottery to determine which flags will be flown and in what order will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. at the American Legion in King. Doors will open at 1 p.m.
