The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Embezzlement charges against Stokes County employee

(The Stokes News) - A county worker has been charged with embezzling money from the job site. David Lyle Nelson, 50, of Mountain Road, Walnut Cove, was arrested on Dec. 1 and placed under a $5,000 unsecured bond.

The crime was discovered the day before Thanksgiving by Mark Delehant, Public Works Director for the County of Stokes. Delehant reported to the Stokes County Sheriff's Office that an employee was taking money from the landfill cash drawer. Upon receiving the information, an investigation into this matter revealed sufficient information and evidence to seek criminal charges against Nelson.

He has been charged with Embezzlement of Funds by Public Officers and Trustees, NCGS 14-92.
