Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Rogers expects Democrats to pick Charlotte or St. Louis

'All about the politics now,' says co-chair of Charlotte's effort for 2012 convention.

The Democratic Party's choice for its 2012 national convention has come down to two cities - and politics - the co-chairman of Charlotte's effort said Thursday.

Duke Energy CEO Jim Rogers said he believes the choice has narrowed to Charlotte and St. Louis. Cleveland and Minneapolis also are finalists.

"It's all about the politics now," Rogers told Observer reporters and editors. "That trumps everything."
