NC State Parks May Close Twice A Week To Save Money

DANBURY, NC (WGHP) — With the many state parks in and near the Triad, Gov. Bev Perdue's proposal to shut them down for two days a week has struck a nerve with some visitors.

Closing the gates twice a week could save the state $3 million and avoids laying off employees, Perdue said. Many of the parks have already cut back on hours and the number of people at the parks to serve and assist.

Hanging Rock State Park is one of 40 state parks that would be affected by the closure proposal. About 400,000 people visit the Hanging Rock Lake State Park every year.
