Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Pulliam honored for its hot dogs

(By TIM CLODFELTER, Winston-Salem Journal) - Rachael Ray Magazine has picked J.S. Pulliam Barbeque as having the best hot dog in the South.

The honor comes in the March issue of the magazine, which was just released.

Mark Flynt, owner of Pulliam Barbeque — 4400 Old Walkertown Road — said that in August, two out-of-towners visited the restaurant to sample hot dogs. They mentioned that they were on their way to the Varsity, a famous hot-dog restaurant in Atlanta.

"It was kind of strange," he said, "but I didn't think nothing about it. We get a lot of people from out of town."

In October, the magazine called for more information about the restaurant.
