Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Forsyth Co. Proposes Making Students Pay To Play School Sports

FORSYTH COUNTY, NC (WGHP) — Students in Forsyth County may be asked to pay fees in order to play sports.

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education is proposing asking high school students to pay $40 per sport and middle school students to pay $15 per sport.

Pay to play would bring in about $120,000 a year. Students on free and reduced lunch would be exempt from the fee.

The board rejected the idea last year but is reconsidering it this year as it looks for ways to close a budget gap.
