Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

How does a liberal run as a centrist in a conservative state and keep his base revved up? Cautiously, with a wink and a nod, if a D.C. fundraiser for Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tim Kaine is any indication. While he tours Virginia as a moderate-to-conservative Democrat, he's assuring his liberal bankrollers elsewhere that he's thinks as they do.
