Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Governors Should Learn to Say No

From Stephen Slivinski, director of budget studies at the Cato Institute:

The National Governors Association annual meeting, held this year in Des Moines, Iowa, will convene under much brighter economic skies than did the past few meetings. For most of the past four years, states were reporting lower-than-expected tax growth and governors were crowing about a "fiscal crisis."
