Personhood
"To be a citizen, one must be BORN."
By implication then, non-citizens have no right to life? Are you sure that's what you wanted to say? That's not what our Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights say.
"...who,despite theoretically being able to have thoughts and dreams, have no experiences (which I would conclude is a prerequisite for personhood)..."
Ah, then going back to an earlier question I posed, you would have no problem with killing a newborn or even a week old baby.
"...these beings obviously have no one to mourn their loss."
Umm, that's crap. Read up on the psychological problems encountered by women after they have abortions. In any case, there is at least one person who mourns their loss, all 46,000,000 of them. That would be me. I expect there are others.
"So there is the fundamental difference--in my humble opinion, murder is an act done against another PERSON, and abortion is a procedure done on an UNBORN being."
It must be nice to have these God-like powers of perception. Of course none of that is founded in reality. I can hardly believe you would argue that there is some magical property to traversing the birth canal that imbues personhood on humans. Pure fantasy.
"Or maybe, what this country could have used over the last three and a half decades is another 40 million unwanted individuals for the 'welfare state' to baby-sit."
See my earlier comment on bombast. Of course we should not even consider the millions of couples who would love to have adopted these children and raised them in loving homes. No, we can only do our Margaret Sanger act and assume that every unaborted child of mean origin will result in yet another welfare check.
