Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: RE: In regards to Mandatory contraception

I sometimes think you miss the sarcasm on this board, Steve.

My point is that abstinence doesn't work! People have sex. Unfortunately, young people who have no business having sex are doing it, and all the preaching in the world isn't going to stop them. If anything, it will encourage them to try it.

If the subject of sex weren't so taboo, then maybe teenagers would ask more questions and get straight answers from the people who want what is best for them. If the subject weren't so taboo, then maybe parents wouldn't avoid it like the plague and actually teach their children when to say no, how to say no, and when it is time to suggest birth control. And maybe biology class would get involved and teach just how the reproductive system works and how to avoid pregnancy.

Maybe mandatory is a little strong. Maybe recommended contraception is more appropriate. Highly recommended.
