Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Again and again...

Tucker Miller responds to Steve:

I'm sure you are familiar with the writings of John Stuart Mill. Greatest good for the greatest number and all that...Anyway, using that principle...
Of course I shouldn't be allowed to hurt other PERSONS through the act of a violent crime. But This is exactly where our difference of opinion starts...
You feel that PERSONhood starts at conception.
I feel that life starts at conception, but PERSONhood starts at birth.
To be a citizen, one must be BORN. If I were to kill you, or strother, or even a two month old child I would be causing harm to not only the dead person but to others (friends, family, etc);whom would be emotionally distraught. But when talking about abortions, this unborn fetus, zygote, or embryo-- who, despite theoretically being able to have thoughts and dreams, have no experiences (which I would conclude is a prerequisite for personhood)-- these beings obviously have no one to mourn their loss. If they had a loving network of friends and family, then abortion wouldn't even be an issue.
So there is the fundamental difference--in my humble opinion, murder is an act done against another PERSON, and abortion is a procedure done on an UNBORN being.

Or maybe, what this country could have used over the last three and a half decades is another 40 million unwanted individuals for the "welfare state" to baby-sit.
