Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

In regards to Mandatory contraception

And why is this such a stupid idea? Honestly. If we all are in agreement that unwanted pregnancies and abortions should be reduced, then what's wrong with prescribing the birth control pill to teenage girls? How about developing a similar pill for males? How about covering the cost of ALL birth control under health insurance? Are you aware that many health plans will not cover birth control?

As a woman, I know that the birth control pill has many health benefits and for many young women, helps to regulate the menstrual cycle. Studies show that the pill helps reduce your chances of cervical and uterine cancers. Most OB/GYNs now recommend that you take a low-dose birth control when you aren't trying to conceive.

We aren't talking about sterilization, here. We're talking about a pill that can be stopped whenever a young woman feels it is the right time to conceive.

Again, there is really no excuse for unwanted pregnancy in this day and age. We have to get over the stigma of sex being a "bad thing" and open the channels of communication between parents, doctors and young people and be pro-active about their reproductive health!
