Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Budget: Good News And Bad

RALEIGH — North Carolina state government finally has a budget for the fiscal year that began last month. If you are a fiscal conservative, there’s nothing much to celebrate. Indeed, it might actually have been better if state legislators, already prone to procrastination and tempted by the seductive wiles of a long session in the capital city, had chosen to dicker over the budget well into the fall rather than settle things in August.
