Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Who's Lewis Carroll???

Lewis Carroll runs Carroll Signs & Advertising in King. He is a longtime political hack from King and longtime inside operative of the King Democrats. He was always a fence-sitter in that he was something of a Buster Robertson and Willis Overby supporter. Of course Buster and Willis are both really Democrats anyway, so it wasn't really a stretch for Lewis. The "standing under a stoplight" reference is to the fact that he is either active in or has something to do with the King Shriners.

The reference to his tax bill was really hilarious. During the debates we had over tax increases while I was a commissioner, Buster used to tell us that Lewis Carroll had demanded we raise taxes to fund school construction. His protestations to the contrary are hypocritical lies. Also, Gwen Kirby, though registered as a Republican, is also really a Democrat and that crowd all runs together. You can bet her letter and his amen were carefully orchestrated. I daresay if you turn over a few more rocks in this case, you'll probably find Sam Hill and Jimmy Walker lurking around in there somewhere.
