Michael Moore Threatens Democrats
Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore, following the Connecticut primary defeat of Sen. Joe Lieberman, issued a direct threat to his fellow Democrats: Denounce the war in Iraq or you'll get what Joe got.
In a letter to his Web site visitors, which served as fertilizer for blogs everywhere, Moore raged that Ned Lamont's anti-war victory was the beginning of a revolution among liberals.
Writes Moore on his Web site: "Let the resounding defeat of Senator Joe Lieberman send a cold shiver down the spine of every Democrat who supported the invasion of Iraq and who continues to support, in any way, this senseless, immoral, unwinnable war. Make no mistake about it: We, the majority of Americans, want this war ended -- and we will actively work to defeat each and every one of you who does not support an immediate end to this war."
If I didn't know better, I would swear that Moore is on the GOP payroll. Moore's own mouth-breathers and Kool-Aid-drinkers (Tucker, paging Tucker, please answer the white courtesy phone) will lap this right up, but Moore's little Howie Dean moment here will drive the mushy middle ever more deeply into the arms of the neocons and the pubbies.
Jeff Goldstein, over at Protein Wisdom points out an interesting dichotomy in part of Moore's rant:
It seems Kerry and Edwards will "never enter the promised land" because they supported Bush and the war at one time, notwithstanding their new status as born-again spokesmen for the anti-war far left. However, Hillary can get a pass if only she'll see the light right now:
Meanwhile, the old media is conveniently managing to ignore the fact that one of Moore's looneytoon peers, Cynthia McKinney will no longer grace the halls and chambers of the capitol building, much to the relief of the Capitol Police, I'm sure. So, while lard-butt and his adoring fans in the MSM are leading the hallelujah chorus, a member of Congress who makes Nancy Pelosi look like an intellectual moderate has gotten unceremoniously bounced out on her Michael Moore. On balance, Lamont appears to be no more or less liberal than Lieberman and has shown a very strong tendency to understand the polemic joys of pandering to a constituency. On balance, I'd say the Democrats took a small, but noticeable step toward the center yesterday.
On a side note, this also demonstrates why the Krauthammer/Barnes flake-out yesterday was so ridiculous.

To Hillary, our first best hope for a woman to become president, I cannot for the life of me figure out why you continue to support Bush and his war. I'm sure someone has advised you that a woman can't be elected unless she proves she can kick ass just as crazy as any man. I'm here to tell you that you will never make it through the Democratic primaries unless you start now by strongly opposing the war. It is your only hope. You and Joe have been Bush's biggest Democratic supporters of the war. Last night's voter revolt took place just a few miles from your home in Chappaqua. Did you hear the noise? Can you read the writing on the wall?

Uh, we can't really forgive Kerry and Edwards. But we're willing to forgive you if you take the proper stance. Because we could really use a chick as a candidate in '08. (Jeff Goldstein)
