Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Input sought on new transportation plan

DANBURY (Winston-Salem Journal) - Officials with the N.C. Department of Transportation want to hear what Stokes County residents have to say about the county's transportation plan.

DOT officials presented an overview of the long-range transportation plan during a public forum Thursday.

Collaborating on the plan are the DOT, and officials from Stokes County and the Northwest Piedmont Rural Planning Organization .

The transportation plan's goals are to identify existing andfuture deficiencies in the transportation system, to develop solutionsto problems, and to provide information and data to help guide future transportation decisions, according to the Northwest PiedmontRural Planning Organization's Web site.
