Bully Pulpit
The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Upon his release, Mr. Phillips will have lawfully paid his debt to society per his conviction. I think he might even deserve a moment's peace from the constant scrutiny of former neighbors/admirers as well as a fair chance to rebuild his life … just my two cents.
I am somewhat fuzzy on the details. There are some I never knew and some I have forgotten.
IIRC, Phillips was convicted of having sex with an underage girl. I don't remember her age, but I do recall that he was not likely to have been her first sexual experience nor her last.
The laws in this country are, like the drug laws, completely schizophrenic on this. Leave aside the fact that having the government intrude on who is having sex with who and how is painfully ridiculous. The idea that a post-pubescent female, who is giving it up regularly to the boys in her school, is suddenly unable to consent when an adult male is involved is beyond absurd.
Indeed, this guy showed a remarkable lack of judgment. He is also probably not the most stand-up guy around, but prison and lifetime sex offender status? I wonder what the puritans who force these issues will say when the government has inevitably entangled itself so deeply into our relationships and sex lives that they find their own names on the sex offender registry.
How can one 15 year old girl be considered (by the law) too young to make a competent decision about who she will have sex with, while other 14 and 15 year olds are charged (by the same law) as adults when they face criminal penalties? The courts have it both ways.
Not to mention that 100 years ago, a 15 girl would probably already be married with children.
It would be nice if we could blame the evil "liberals" with this particular injustice. However, i have my suspicians that the "religious" right has just as much to do with this nonsense.
Additionally i pose this question: If a female teacher "Kristi" Phillips had been sleeping with a 15 year old boy would anyone have even cared???
I agree with most of that, with the following two exceptions:
The kind of hysteria over this behavior with post-pubescent girls is really inflamed by feminism. Yes, it seems puritanical regulations always come from the so-called "religious right," but most, if not all of the laws related to sexual behavior with regard to consent are promoted by feminists. If you look into the agencies that police and enforce these laws, you will find them populated overwhelmingly by feminists (of both genders). Liberal and conservative really have little to do with it.
Also, I can't agree that there would have been no furor over the inverse gender relationship. The news outlets have been chock full of such stories. These incidents are even more ridiculous since boys sexually mature much later than girls. That leads to the utterly surreal situation in which a 23 year old woman is put in prison for having sex with a 16 year old boy. Once again, though, the furor is driven by feminists since it plays into the old high school boys' fantasy of the "hot teacher."
Kemp Phillips has already served more time than all of the sexy young female teachers of his ilk have combined.
Is this site for real? He had sex with a student from the school were he was a teacher. He is a sex offender. If it were your daughter, I believe your thoughts would be different. He has a problem. He should be watched by society and not allowed around children.
