The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

McCrory livens up state race

Republican candidates criticize newcomer in debate in Raleigh

RALEIGH (Winston-Salem Journal) -
It has been three days since Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory announced that he is running for governor, but he has already shaken up the Republican race.

His influence was evident last night at a Republican debate, during which the chief disagreement came down to which of the four Republican candidates has the best background to enact change.
