Tilley honored at Double Creek meeting
PILOT MOUNTAIN (The Stokes News) - It appeared to be business as usual late last month when firefighters, board members and others gathered at the Double Creek Volunteer Fire Department station for the department’s annual meeting. Reports were read and officers were elected for the small Stokes County department, located on N.C. 268 just minutes east of Pilot Mountain.
But it was after the business of planning for the future had been taken care of that those in attendance paused to look to the department’s past and to honor a man who has been instrumental in developing firefighting in the Double Creek community and throughout Stokes County.
L.G. Tilley was called to the front and presented with a plaque noting his service to the community. A heavy granite monument was then revealed that denotes Tilley’s 45 years of service with both the Double Creek and Sauratown volunteer fire departments. The monument was to be installed at the building this week.
