Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Filing for several seats closes

(The Stokes News) - The State House 91st District has two candidates running in opposing parties after a Democrat filed toward the end of the filing period last week.

Ed Gambill of King will run on the Democratic ticket for the House seat against Republican incumbent Bryan Holloway, who also resides in King.

Both incumbent county commissioners up for re-election have filed for candidacy to maintain their seats, but they will not be running unopposed. Republican candidates Leon Inman and Jimmy Walker, both of King, filed for candidacy for the two seats on the board of commissioners that they both already hold.
