Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update: Celebrate

From Rush Limbaugh: No surprise, here, folks: Democrats were able to pick off three Northeast liberal Republicans to advance this Porkulus package to a Senate vote. We knew this would be the strategy after the election, because the Democrats didn't get a super-majority in the Senate; they needed some Republicans, and they found three.

If you're among those still seething over these defections, take note. Americans United for Change -- an ultra liberal bunch that usually spends its dollars attacking Republicans -- took out an ad thanking Arlen Sector, Susan Collins, and Olympia Snowe for working with Obama at the expense of their own party.

Now, as for this spending bill, there are payoffs to all sorts of liberal groups -- ACORN gets its $4 billion -- but the sheer size of what can only be termed "welfare" is truly astounding. There's a provision to spend $17 billion in direct payments for people who receive entitlements; $20 billion more for additional food stamp funding (and they're not underfunded as it is); $47 billion to give people more time not to look for work -- at taxpayer expense. The so-called infrastructure payouts are almost $50 billion in pork.

And there's tens of billions more spent on pet liberal projects in health care, "green energy," and another $80 billion sent to school districts... so they can avoid bringing their budgets in line with reality.

When all is said and done, this "thank you" package will cost almost a trillion dollars, and only thing stimulated will be lefties and their causes. Well, no wonder liberals are taking out ads to celebrate this debacle!
