Proposed elementary school pushing to open doors by 2012
(By Amanda Dodson, The Stokes News) - The land has been purchased, plans have been drawn and Stokes County Board of Education Superintendent Dr. Stewart Hobbs addressed the board of commissioners on July 26 urging them to “start looking towards construction” for the new proposed elementary school.
Dr. Hobbs presented a floor plan sketch and site plans of the new state of the art facility that will be located on Hope Kiser Road in King. The land has been paid for, and the board of education believes it is an ideal time to begin the lengthy process of erecting a new school.
“The permits could take four to five months, and the actual construction another 10 to 12,” Dr. Hobbs explained, “but it’s a good time to build; some of our schools have more classrooms outside than inside.”
The 72,000 square foot elementary school plans to feature a closed-off gym/dining area for community use, an “X floor plan” which will allow for shorter halls with an easy access to outside and a separate bus and car entry.
The 14 million dollar price tag was discussed in length, but the overall consensus was the new school was necessary.
