The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

North Stokes High School Teacher Arrested

Teacher Charged With Intoxication, Public Consumption

STOKES COUNTY, NC (WXII The Triad) -
An assistant football coach and math teacher at North Stokes High School was arrested on Oct. 15 at a football game, authorities with the Stokes County School System confirmed Monday.

Deputies said Gil Carroll was charged with being intoxicated and disruptive and public consumption of alcohol.

Officials said Carroll was not taken to a jail but was relieved of his coaching duties at the game.

School system Superintendent Steward Hobbs said Carroll was fired after the game.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 15.

North Stokes High School was hosting West Stokes High School at the time.
