Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Columnist Apologizes For Joke About VA Tech Coach Frank Beamer’s Face, Which Was Disfigured As A Child

(By Tyler Reisinger, SportsGrid) - 'Gainesville (FL) Sun' columnist Pat Dooley needed to use an analogy to describe the poor condition of the turf at Arrowhead Stadium during yesterday’s Chiefs-Ravens game, and he ended up making one of the first major media gaffes of 2011.

The Virginia Tech coach’s face and neck were disfigured as a child when a gasoline can exploded in his face. Beamer has since undergone dozens of surgeries and skin grafts to repair the skin on his neck and face. That doesn’t exactly scream “comedy,” does it?
