NHL Player Keith Ballard’s Knee Injury Is Not For The Squeamish

(By Brad Cohen, SportsGrid) - Hockey can be a violent sport, which often makes for some pretty awesome highlights. But Vancouver Canucks defenseman Keith Ballard’s injury last night veered on the side of nauseating.

The league-leading Canucks beat the lowly Ottawa Senators 4-2 Monday, but might have lost Ballard for awhile after his knee bent at a disturbingly awkward ankle. The defenseman rolled on the ice screaming in pain before struggling to make his way back to the bench.

The injury occurred early in the first period when Ballard got tangled up along with boards with Senators forward Milan Michalek, and Michalek pulled Ballard to the ground. There was nothing particularly chippy about the play, but their legs got caught at the wrong angle for the Canucks defenseman. Somewhere, Shaun Livingston is cringing.
