Edith Clement Surfaces in Supreme Court Name Game

From CNSNews.com:

The Democrats' pursuit of Karl Rove may take a detour on Tuesday if - as rumored - President Bush names the person he wants to succeed Sandra Day O'Connor on the U.S. Supreme Court. Reuters, quoting Republican sources, said a decision could be made as early as Tuesday. The name of Judge Edith Clement surfaced on Tuesday, with some media outlets speculating she may be Bush's pick. According to the Associated Press, the 57-year-old Clement, a white woman, was confirmed unanimously by the Senate when she was nominated to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals in New Orleans in 2001. Clement is on record as saying that the right to privacy guaranteed by the Supreme Court includes the right to have an abortion and that "the law is settled in that regard."
