Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Embattled FEMA Director Mike Brown Resigns

Personally, I feel sorry for Brown because I believe he's the scapegoat...

I don't. He is an incompetent boob. FEMA has become a repository for patronage appointments and the inevitable pork that results from those appointments. It started when Slick Willy started feathering it with political favor appointments and his rejects from BATF (a.k.a the palace guard) who couldn't be trusted with weapons. Like with much of the Clinton model of governance, Bush hasn't bothered to change it one iota. One of the only accurate statements in the Molly Ivins article was that the only thing offered as a qualification for Brown holding the position was that he ran an Arabian horse breeding organization. If that doesn't scream patronage, nothing does.
