RE: God and Government
Many religious right and conservatives want to claim that the US is a Christian nation, but we do not act like one.
And many atheist leftists and liberals want to claim we are not, yet they love to brow-beat us with their twisted versions of Christian teachings.
They fight to keep "under God" in the Pledge of Alligiance, yet they support wars.
Careful with that. God supported more than one war himself. This is one of the reasons liberals are on dangerous ground when they try to use Judeo-Christian scripture and teachings as propaganda tools.
The fact is that it is very, very difficult to be the kind of Christian that Jesus wants us to be. It isn't just a label and a ritual that you follow. It is a way of life that requires us to put the needs of others before our own, even when it may put us in uncomfortable or even dangerous situations.
All very true. "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."
Secondly, it is impossible to separate the individual from the nation as a whole.
Wrong. Support this with evidence. This is your opinion as a Marxist and a statist, not a fact. It is also a statement without scriptural or Christian authority.
Our nation should set the standard when it comes to giving and acting in a Christian manner.
Absolutely correct. But that is just our desire as individuals, it does not proceed from the teachings of Christ.
The actions of individuals don't make much difference when the national interests over-ride them.
Essentially true, what's your point? This is the basis of one of the standard arguments against collectivism. Is this what you really wanted to say?
America needs to learn that actions speak louder than words.
Americans should heed this, though most of us are well aware of it. America is a place and a nation, it is not possible for it to learn anything, it is inanimate. There is an important difference in that distinction.
