Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

UNC mourns killing of student-body president


Police have no suspects in her shooting death

CHAPEL HILL (Winston-Salem Journal) -
Grief churned through the campus of UNC Chapel Hill yesterday after authorities identified a woman who had been found dead Wednesday morning as Eve Marie Carson, the student- body president.

The news sent the university community reeling. On a campus full of stars, Carson was one of the brightest, most admired students. She was found shot to death in an upscale neighborhood about a mile from campus.

Carson, of Athens, Ga., was everything to everyone, those who knew her said.
