Sexist, Or Gentlemanly? High Schooler Refuses To Wrestle Girl In State Tournament

(By Dan Fogarty, SportsGrid) - Cassy Herkelman, a female high school wrestler who made history when she became one of the first girls ever to qualify for the Iowa State tournament, will be moving onto the next round in her weight class. It just didn’t happen the way she expected it.

Herkelman moved on after her opponent, tournament favorite (and home-school kid) Joel Northrup, forfeited his first-round match against Herkelman. This is a huge deal in wrestling-crazed Iowa, and is causing something of a minor uproar.
