We dream of things that never were--like reducing domestic discretionary spending, year over year--and ask why not!

Or, to paraphrase another of Pelosi's predecessors: The liberals only interpret the world, in various ways; the point is to change it.

New Jersey Gov. Christie Rushed to Hospital With Breathing Problems

(FoxNews.com) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was taken to a hospital Thursday for tests after having difficulty breathing.

Christie was being driven to a farm in central New Jersey to sign open-space legislation when the governor had difficulty breathing and was taken to Somerset Medical Center out of an "abundance of caution," Christie spokesman Michael Drewniak said.

"In line with someone dealing with asthma, he is being given routine tests as a precautionary measure," Drewniak said. "The governor is extremely grateful for the quality of care he is receiving this morning and has nothing but praise for the world-class doctors, nurses and staff."

Jeopardy! 71-Year-Old Host Alex Trebek Snaps Achilles Tendon While Chasing Down Burglar Outside Hotel Room!

SAN FRANCISCO (The Blaze/AP) — “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek says he snapped his Achilles tendon while running after a burglar who had stolen cash, a bracelet and other items from his San Francisco hotel room.

The 71-year-old Trebek tells KGO-TV that he also injured his other leg while falling down during the chase early Wednesday. He was on crutches later Wednesday when he hosted the National Geographic World Championship at Google headquarters in Mountain View.

San Francisco police Lt. Troy Dangerfield says 56-year-old old Lucinda Moyers was arrested on suspicion of felony burglary and receiving stolen property. The cash and bracelet haven’t been found but other items were recovered. Dangerfield says officers found several items near the hotel ice machine.

“I would add to that, that I would like to have a hearing on right-wing extremists, ideologues who advocate violence and advocate, in essence, the terrorizing of certain groups,” Jackson Lee said.

Baddour, who was set to retire at the end of the year, announced Thursday he will step away immediately.

While he believes a debt deal will get done and in fact favors a plan closer to what the Democrats are proposing, Langone told CNBC that Obama's behavior has been "unpresidential."

"He is dividing us as a nation," Langone said. "He's not bringing us together. He's willfully dividing us. He's petulant."

The way to get out of "unemployment crisis is to spend money," Rep. Nadler says.

"That’s the real crisis – the unemployment, not the deficit. We don’t have a deficit problem right now. In the long term, we have a deficit problem – we’ve got to get it under control but not right now," said Nadler at the Capitol on Wednesday.

"Right now we’ve got to get unemployment under control. If we got unemployment down to 7 percent, down to 5 percent, which is what it was in 2005, and 2007 rather before the recession hit, if we got it down to 5 percent, half the deficit would be eliminated just by that – half the deficit without cutting a nickel from the budget. So, we have to address the real problem. The real problem is we are not taxing properly."

As we’ve reported, MSNBC political commentator Jimmy Williams argued on Ratigan’s show this week that “anybody that thinks the Tea Party exists is smoking crack cocaine in America.” Well, turns out that wasn’t the only gem Williams had to offer, saying on the program that “one person is controlling the agenda of the United States of America right now, and his name is Grover Norquist.”

Not the most outrageous of statements, one might argue. 'But wait'. We forgot the rest of it: “Grover Norquist was Newt Gingrich’s butt buddy.” Williams also described Norquist as a “petty criminal.”

The only thing the GOP negotiators can do wrong is make concessions just to get a deal through Congress, he said.

“Obama’s totally lost,” Trump said. “He’s obviously not somebody who’s made a lot of deals in his life.

“The man is not a man who makes deals. The one deal he made was Obamacare and that’s a disaster for the country.”

Times) - Sarah Palin, like Michele Bachmann, is aligned with many Republicans in condemning President Obama and other Democrats for having the gall to suggest that the wealthiest of Americans return to a tax structure that was in place before George W. Bush introduced his tax cuts for the rich.

“The White House and many liberals in Congress are so addicted to that OPM, other people’s money, that it’s much easier to spend other people’s money than their own," Palin said on the Fox Business Network.

Very much like Bachmann, Palin is also not interested in raising the debt ceiling, it appears.

“The President is not capable of giving the right message to deal with the problem we are facing with the bankruptcy that’s facing America if we don’t start living within our means. The right message is that growing more debt won’t get us out of debt, and raising taxes in a time of economic woes in a bad economy is a bad idea," Palin said.

The Republican National Committee today released the final television ad in its month-long “Change Direction” economic messaging campaign.

The advertisements are airing in battleground states President Barack Obama won in 2008 but where the RNC thinks Obama is vulnerable this election cycle: Iowa, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana and Ohio.

In the ad, a little girl in pink sits on a couch with a remote control, flipping past news channels broadcasting grim economic news.

In an interview with Piers Morgan on CNN, Lopez defiantly made his stand and assured Morgan he would leave the United States if Palin is elected. And not move to Mexico but Canada. ”I will go further North. I’ve been South but I will go further North. I will leave the United States of America.”

But he slipped in the word “allegedly” at one point in the interview. ”Allegedly”? It seems like he’s giving himself a way out. Considering he has a late night show on TBS, it may be pretty hard to get late night guests there.

Report: 1 in 8 employer insurance plans getting the axe since Obamacare

This figure comes from a National Federation of Independent Business report which surveyed small businesses one year after the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The report, released today, found prevailing negative attitudes about the law’s impact among small business owners.

PHILADELPHIA (MyFoxPHILLY.com) - Fox 29 reporter Chris O’Connell and video journalist Dave Edwards are OK after they were attacked on live TV by the son of a man charged in a bizarre animal cruelty case involving a naked man and an Iguana.

O’Connell and Edwards were doing a live report at 10 p.m. about the case, where a police raid was triggered by the naked man outside a house at 9th and Shunk Street on Tuesday night.

The man, who O’Connell later said was the suspect’s son, appeared during the live segment and lunged at O’Connell as Edwards tried to restrain him.

RALEIGH (By David N. Bass, Carolina Journal Online) — A splattered bug and a lightning bolt — that’s one way to describe the shape of North Carolina’s 1st and 12th congressional districts, respectively. Although different in geography, they share one similarity: Both are tailored to strengthen the electoral power of minority voters, a safeguard under the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965 meant to purge racism.

It’s an idea rich with historical significance, but has it outlived its usefulness? In a nation that elected its first black president in 2008, has 44 black members of Congress (nearly half from the southeast), and reached an all-time high in racially integrated neighborhoods after the last census, observers wonder whether so-called “majority-minority” districts — and other conditions of the Voting Rights Act — are still needed.

“We’re trying to settle out an issue that 40 years ago was a concern, but now people are [desegregating] on their own,” said Michael Bitzer, an associate professor of political science and history at Catawba College in Salisbury. “That’s going to be an interesting question that the U.S. Supreme Court has got to confront at some point — whether these [changes] are truly done by use of the law, or is it just natural residential tendencies.”

Joe Nelms of Family Baptist Church gave the invocation at Saturday night’s Nationwide race at Nashville Speedway. Late in the prayer, Nelms channeled his inner Ricky Bobby when he borrowed a line from the film “Talladega Nights”.

“Lord, I want to thank you for my smokin’ hot wife tonight, Lisa, and my two children, Eli and Emma, or as we like to call, ‘The Little E's,'" he said, while also thanking automotive companies, like Goodyear and Sunoco, Reuters reported.

Leaning against a wall during a recent Birmingham, Alabama, public hearing, Bryant listened to an overflow crowd pepper federal officials with concerns about businesses polluting the drinking water and causing cases of cancer.

After two hours, Bryant—a coal mine owner from Jasper—had heard enough and, in a moment being described as “right out of Atlas Shrugged,” took his turn at the microphone:

“Nearly every day without fail…men stream to these [mining] operations looking for work in Walker County. They can’t pay their mortgage. They can’t pay their car note. They can’t feed their families. They don’t have health insurance. And as I stand here today, I just…you know…what’s the use? I got a permit to open up an underground coal mine that would employ probably 125 people. They’d be paid wages from $50,000 to $150,000 a year. We would consume probably $50 million to $60 million in consumables a year, putting more men to work. And my only idea today is to go home. What’s the use? I see these guys—I see them with tears in their eyes—looking for work. And if there’s so much opposition to these guys making a living, I feel like there’s no need in me putting out the effort to provide work for them. So…basically what I’ve decided is not to open the mine. I’m just quitting. Thank you.”

Since last year, Pawlenty has admitted that his support for cap-and-trade policies was a “clunker” on his record and apologized repeatedly for the mistake. Today, Newt Gingrich had an opportunity to atone for his own flirtation on anthropogenic climate change, and did — sort of. When asked by WGIR’s Paul Westcott whether he regretted his notorious ad pushing for a government policy response to AGW, Newt said he did, but only because people “misconstrued” his attempts to start a debate:

Charles Krauthammer Reacts to Obama Address: This Was a Campaign Speech

(By Fox News Insider) - After Monday night’s address by the president and response by House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Bret Baier and his political panel reacted. Steve Hayes and A.B. Stoddard weighed in, Stoddard saying that when it came to the president, his speech was “exactly what [was] expected.” Hayes suggested that the president’s remarks completely ignored the progress of the last few days.

The critique most noteworthy, however, may have belonged to Charles Krauthammer who said he believed Obama’s speech was a purely partisan campaign speech.

“He kept using the term ‘balanced approach,’ which is a word tested in the polls to appeal to Independents.”

Krauthammer also pointed out the comparison Obama tried to make to President Ronald Reagan in the former commander in chief’s ability to sway Americans on a particular issue.

“Remember what he said to Eric Cantor? ‘You call my bluff, I’ll go to the people?’ This is his attempt … let’s see if it works.”

A Leadership Default

The President blames House Republicans for everything.

(The Wall Street Journal) - The Obama Presidency has been unprecedented in many ways, and last night we saw another startling illustration: A President using a national TV address from the White House to call out his political opposition as unreasonable and radical and blame them as the sole reason for the "stalemate" over spending and the national debt.

We've watched dozens of these speeches over the years, and this was more like a DNC fund-raiser than an Oval Office address. Though President Obama referred to the need to compromise, his idea of compromise was to call on the public to overwhelm Republicans with demands to raise taxes. He demeaned the GOP for protecting, in his poll-tested language, "millionaires and billionaires," for favoring "corporate jet owners and oil companies" over seniors on Medicare, and "hedge fund managers" over "their secretaries." While he invoked Ronald Reagan, the Gipper would never have used such rhetoric about his opposition on an issue of national moment.

Eight things you ought to know before you start writing stories about Rick Perry. You’re welcome.

As you know, Rick Perry, the governor of Texas, is contemplating a presidential run, which means that any day now, your boss will be sending you down here to take the measure of the man. Though he managed to avoid the 2012 spotlight longer than any other candidate, Perry, the nation’s longest-serving governor, has lately become, in the words of a recent NPR report, “the eight-hundred-pound gorilla on the sidelines of this race.” The trickle of stories about him has become a stream, and the minute Perry declares his candidacy, that stream will become a flood, a flood that will carry you straight to Austin. I am writing you this note in the hope that it will help you avoid the political and sociological clichés that Texas is subjected to every time one of our politicians seeks the national stage.

It’s an experience we’re all too familiar with. A Texan has occupied the White House in 17 of the past 48 years—just over a third of the time. Texas has become an incubator for presidents, as Virginia and Ohio were in America’s distant past. I’ll grant you that the presidents we have sent to Washington, from LBJ to 
George W. Bush, have not always served as the best advertisements for Texas. Nevertheless, we have endured a disproportionate amount of bad writing about our state from journalists who don’t know very much about the place, and I for one can’t bear to suffer through another campaign of it.

So please, heed this advice. Rick Perry, as you have no doubt already discovered, is not the easiest man to write about. He is secretive and leery of the media (sometimes to the point of hostility), and he has a strategically valuable knack for being underestimated by his critics. I have been writing about him since the eighties, when he began his career in the Texas Legislature. Along the way I have learned a few things, which I have arranged in this handy list of Eight Points to Keep in Mind When Writing About Rick Perry.

A Republican aide e-mails me: “The Speaker, Sen. Reid and Sen. McConnell all agreed on the general framework of a two-part plan. A short-term increase (with cuts greater than the increase), combined with a committee to find long-term savings before the rest of the increase would be considered. Sen. Reid took the bipartisan plan to the White House and the President said no.”

Obama: FDR Was 'Fiscally Conservative'

College Park, Md. (CNSNews.com) – President Barack Obama said that Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) – the president best known for establishing a welfare and regulatory state in America – was “fiscally conservative,” in response to a question about how to keep the economy going.

Obama was referring to spending-cut measures Roosevelt took in the middle of the New Deal that lasted from 1933 to 1940.

“FDR comes in, he tries all these things with the New Deal; but FDR, contrary to myth, was pretty fiscally conservative,” the president said Friday during a town hall meeting on the campus of the University of Maryland.

Yet Fox Business correspondent Charlie Gasparino suggests that many New Yorkers on Wall Street, presumably of both political parties, are not at all excited about the possibility of a Perry presidency.

“I talk to a lot of Wall Street guys . . . you know I don’t think a guy from Texas can win again. I just think there’s a Texas taint to it all. And I know the big money on the street in New York, I don’t think they’re going to go for a Texan.”

RALEIGH (By Karen Welsh, Carolina Journal Online) — The proposed sale of Rex Healthcare to Wake Med spurred House Speaker Thom Tillis, R-Mecklenburg, to take a more thorough look at the assets on the state’s balance sheet.

In late June, Tillis picked former co-speaker Rep. Harold Brubaker, R-Randolph, to head a committee that would examine surplus state property, including unwanted land, vehicles, and buildings.

Fiscal conservatives repeatedly have called for such a review. They say property that has commercial value and is not needed for state operations should be taken off the government ledger and put in private hands, where it can generate tax revenues. Liberals are more cautious, warning against shedding buildings and other property that is used to provide essential public services.

Jordan Shaw, a spokesman for Tillis, said Brubaker is currently in the process of putting together a committee to look at asset distribution and management.

(By PAUL A. GIGOT, Wall Street Journal) - Not long after the 2008 election, a triumphant Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) stopped by our offices to announce that American politics had changed forever. Never again would we be able to argue successfully, as we had since Reagan, for smaller government. The American electorate had declared it wanted a permanently larger entitlement state. The 2010 election certainly cast doubt on Mr. Schumer's thesis, but it's worth keeping his claims in mind as we watch the senator emerge as the single biggest obstacle in Congress to spending cuts.

His role has been obvious for some time, but a revealing and generally laudatory article by Meredith Shiner in Roll Call this week lays out the Schumer strategy of assailing House Republicans as radical, in particular demonizing House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in personal terms, and opposing any Democratic concessions on entitlements. Mr. Schumer also led the internal fight against releasing a Senate budget, though Democrats control that body and are supposed to pass a budget resolution under the 1974 budget law.

This is cynicism squared, but Mr. Schumer has been getting away with it because the press pack has fixated on the political narrative of House Republicans vs. President Obama. This gives Senate Democrats up for re-election next year a free pass to hide under Mr. Schumer's brand of attack politics while pretending to favor spending cuts and debt reduction and to oppose tax increases.

Parents tried to pull their kids away from the oversexed swimmers -- Myron Helms, 33, and Victoria Cross, 40 -- as the two proceeded to have sex for at least 30 minutes, according to witnesses.

A concerned parent told park pool manager Cindy Schwab what the two were doing below the surface, and when Schwab walked over to tell them to stop, she surprised them in the act . According to a Connorsville police report, "Cindy advised that when the female moved away from the male, she could see the male's penis."

MSNBC Distorts Reagan Position on Debt Ceiling, Says Media Watchdog Group

(CNSNews.com) – Cable network MSNBC has been distorting the late President Ronald Reagan’s position on raising the debt ceiling, in the midst of a current-day political debate over raising that ceiling between President Barack Obama and Republicans on Capitol Hill, says an analysis by the Media Research Center (MRC).

“At least five MSNBC anchors since Tuesday have promoted a cherry-picked House Democratic Caucus video that distorts President Ronald Reagan’s position on the debt ceiling, inaccurately asserting that President Barack Obama is more in line with Reagan than the Republicans,” MRC News Analyst Alex Fitzsimmons reported in a BiasAlert on Wednesday.

The five MSNBC anchors are Chris Matthews, Al Sharpton, Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O’Donnell and Thomas Roberts. They each played or cited an excerpt from a Reagan speech given on Sept. 26, 1987. In the excerpt, Reagan expressed the need to raise the debt ceiling.

However, the cable network did not acknowledge that later in that same speech Reagan insisted on a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.

Harry Reid Won’t ‘Waste the Senate’s Time’ on ‘Worst Legislation’ in U.S. History

FEC: John Edwards must repay $2.3M

(By Craig Jarvis, NewsObserver.com) - The Federal Elections Commission on Thursday voted unanimously to require former U.S. Sen. John Edwards' presidential campaign committee to pay back about $2.3 million, mostly in federal matching funds it received after he pulled out of the race in January 2008.

Attorneys for Edwards' campaign committee say they will appeal the decision, which otherwise would take effect when the audit is completed in about 30 days.

Every presidential candidate who receives federal matching money is audited. Campaign committees can't zero-out books until there has been a final audit, which takes years. Several members of the six-person commission stressed that this was a routine case.

Democrats Can Blame One of Their Own for Redrawn Maps

If the latest proposed map for North Carolina congressional elections makes it harder for Democrats to win, they can thank Rep. G.K. Butterfield.

RALEIGH (By Rick Henderson, Carolina Journal Online) — Tar Heel Democrats, meet Murphy’s Law. If you thought your situation was bad when the Republican-led General Assembly released its first set of congressional district maps July 1, Round Two is even worse.

Under the final maps issued Wednesday, what had been a modest Republican gerrymander may result in a decade of GOP dominance of our congressional delegation. And if the maps pass final muster with the General Assembly and survive challenges in court, Democrats should focus their ire at one of their own: Rep. G.K. Butterfield, the Wilson Democrat who has represented the 1st Congressional District since 2004.

Butterfield serves in one of the state’s two majority-black districts. Since the 2000 census, however, his northeastern district has lost nearly 100,000 residents; the population there and statewide has shifted from rural areas to urban and suburban neighborhoods. To keep the number of residents equal in every congressional district, the boundaries had to be moved. And to satisfy the federal Voting Rights Act, the 1st District had to include enough black voters to ensure their rights were not “diluted.”

Former Edwards mistress Hunter asks judge to issue contempt order in sex tape case

HILLSBOROUGH, NC (AP) — The former mistress of John Edwards wants a North Carolina judge to issue a contempt order against a former Edwards campaign aide in a case involving a purported sex tape.

Lawyers for Rielle Hunter filed a motion Wednesday in Orange County Superior Court asking for a contempt of court finding against Andrew and Cheri Young and their lawyer.

Hunter's motion claims the Youngs have shared information with federal prosecutors in a separate criminal case involving Edwards. Her lawyers say that violates protective orders in the civil case.

‘You Fu** with me!’: Cop Threatens to Kill Concealed Carry Gun Owner During Traffic Stop

(By Jonathon M. Seidl, The Blaze) - A police officer’s dash cam in Canton, OH caught a disturbing exchange last month between a cop and a driver during a traffic stop. In it, the cop can be heard (and seen) berating a man for not telling the officer immediately that he had a concealed carry permit and thus a concealed weapon, even saying that he should have killed him. But there’s just one problem: the man tried several times but the officer cut him off.

That’s a problem. In Ohio (as in many states), the law requires concealed carry gun owners to immediately inform law enforcement if they have a weapon when they are pulled over. So when the man, named William, was not allowed to do so immediately, and the cop eventually found out, that created an issue.

“Mary Ann, let me break the news to you. My children are not in a public position,” he said in a stern way. “I am. You’re asking me a value statement and not a policy. … No, no, you have to appreciate this. My children are not an instrument of me being mayor. My children are my children, and that may be news to you, and that may be new to you, Mary Ann, but you have to understand that I’m making this decision as a father.”

After Ahern continued to press him on the issue, Emanuel got so flustered he stood up, took off his mic, dropped it on the floor, and walked away, even though Ahern implored him to stay and talk:

U.S. loses $1.3 billion in exiting Chrysler

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - U.S. taxpayers likely lost $1.3 billion in the government bailout of Chrysler, the Treasury Department announced Thursday.

The government recently sold its remaining 6% stake in the company to Italian automaker Fiat, wrapping up the 2009 auto bailouts that were part of TARP.

Fiat paid the Treasury a total of $560 million for the remaining shares, as well as rights to shares held by the United Auto Workers retiree trust.

Stokes County School budget is finally complete - SRO’s lost; teaching positions left unfilled

(By Ryan Sarda, The Stokes News) - The budget for the 2011-12 school year was a hot topic in Ronnie Mendenhall’s Board of Education meeting debut as the new Superintendent of Stokes County Schools.

The Board of Education unanimously approved the 2011-12 budget as proposed in their monthly meeting held at the Administrative Office in Danbury on Monday night.

Among some of the cuts in this upcoming school year are School Resource Officers, which saves the school system roughly $156,900.

There will be now one SRO at each of the three high schools. For the middle schools and the elementary schools, there will be one SRO representing the entire county.

Former Hanging Rock superintendent gives back to park through taxidermy

LAWSONVILLE (By Lisa O'Donnell, Winston-Salem Journal) - Friends tell Tommy Wagoner that they think of him whenever they see roadkill.

Most folks in Stokes County know Wagoner as the former superintendent of Hanging Rock State Park, a position he retired from in 2003 after 31 years in the state's park system.

In his post-park career, Wagoner is distinguishing himself as a skilled taxidermist, turning roadkill and other carcasses into exhibits that are being used in parks around the state.

"It's an enjoyable hobby and I like being able to help the park system," said Wagoner, 62. "I've still got some park in me."

Black Caucus ‘Furious’ Over Rep. West’s Email to Dem Party Chief

Space Shuttle Atlantis lands, marks the end of the 30-year shuttle era

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) - Atlantis and four astronauts returned from the International Space Station in triumph Thursday, bringing an end to NASA's 30-year shuttle journey with one last, rousing touchdown that drew cheers and tears.

A record crowd of 2,000 gathered near the landing strip, thousands more packed Kennedy Space Center and countless others watched from afar as NASA's longest-running spaceflight program came to a close.

"After serving the world for over 30 years, the space shuttle's earned its place in history. And it's come to a final stop," commander Christopher Ferguson radioed after Atlantis glided through the ghostly twilight and landed on the runway.

"Job well done, America," replied Mission Control.

It's known only by the manufacturer's designation Orbiter Vehicle 95, or OV-95, though it has "flown" all 135 space shuttle missions -- at least 15 times apiece -- plus dozens of precursor test flights by the prototype shuttle Enterprise.

The full-size orbiter is no mockup. It's an exact replica, electronically speaking, tasked to make sure the software and 230 miles of wiring needed to fly the shuttles are error-free.

Rep. Paul made his case while on the Tom Sullivan Show that the TSA is invasive, unnecessary, and ineffective. He rejected the underlying premise of the TSA wholesale- that federal bureaucrats will keep us safer than private enterprises with direct interest in the safety (and satisfaction) of their customers.

On the heavy pat-down policies implemented over the past year, Paul said “these are not the most reputable people…we would be arrested if we did this.”

Rep. West Stands by Email Calling Wasserman Schultz 'Vile, Despicable and Cowardly'

WASHINGTON (FoxNews.com) - Republican Rep. Allen West of Florida is standing by an incendiary email he sent to a Democratic colleague after she criticized him in a speech on the House floor.

"I think it's important to stake my ground," West told Fox News when asked about his email to Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. "It was about enough is enough, and it's my right to say that. She is the one elevating this."

West's email called Wasserman Schultz "vile, despicable and cowardly" after she called into question his stance on Medicare during the debate over a spending cap and balanced budget bill before the House.

Postmaster says days are numbered for Saturday mail delivery

(By Carly Mallenbaum, USA TODAY) - Falling mail volume and soaring red ink may soon doom Saturday mail delivery and prompt three-day-a-week delivery within 15 years, Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe warns.

Donahoe's forecast is based on a projected $8.3 billion loss this year as the drift from paper to electronic communication hammers the Postal Service. "On Sept. 30," he told the USA TODAY editorial board Tuesday, "I won't be able to pay my bills."

Chief among them: a $5.5 billion payment due Sept. 30 to cover future retirees' health benefits.

The expanding catalogue of Obamacare fables

(By Michelle Malkin, Creators Syndicate) - Is there a health insurance horror story disseminated by the White House and its allies that ever turned out to be true? Obamacare advocates have exercised more artistic license than a convention of Photoshoppers. Now, a prominent sob story shilled by President Obama himself about his own mother is in doubt. It’s high past time to call their bluffs.

The tall-tale-teller-in-chief cited mom Stanley Ann Dunham’s deathbed fight with her insurer several times over the years to support his successful push to ban pre-existing condition exclusions by insurers. In a typical recounting, Obama shared his personalized trauma during a 2008 debate: “For my mother to die of cancer at the age of 53 and have to spend the last months of her life in the hospital room arguing with insurance companies because they’re saying that this may be a pre-existing condition and they don’t have to pay her treatment, there’s something fundamentally wrong about that.”

But there was something fundamentally wrong with Obama’s story. In a recently published biography of Obama’s mother, author and New York Times reporter Janny Scott discovered that Dunham’s health insurer had in fact reimbursed her medical expenses with nary an objection. The actual coverage dispute centered on a separate disability insurance policy.

For in the 6 o'clock time slot this evening the Reverend Al actually asserted that Barack Obama sounds more like Ronald Reagan than Tea Party freshmen members of Congress. I kid you not.

Republican Joe Walsh Taunts 'Bully' Chris Matthews: Obama 'Sends a Tingle Up Your Leg'

(By Scott Whitlock, NewsBusters.org) - Republican Congressman Joe Walsh didn't put up with Chris Matthews' "bullying" on Tuesday, mocking the liberal MSNBC anchor for his effusive praise of Barack Obama. Over the host's frequent interruptions, the Illinois Representative taunted, "Hey, Chris, your President, who sends a tingle up your leg-"

Walsh appeared to discuss the debt ceiling debate and what Republicans are willing to cut. The Congressman jokingly referred to Matthews' famous 2008 remark that an Obama speech created a "thrill going up my leg." A seemingly chagrined Matthews dismissed, "Okay. Here we go. This is where I thought we'd end up."

The anchor resorted to arguing semantics, reminding, "And first of all, tingles is your word."

Father Charged in Wreck that Killed His Two Children

Father had suspended license when accident happened

MOUNT AIRY, NC (WGHP) — A Mount Airy father has been charged with two counts of second degree murder in connection with a wreck that killed his two sons after he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and wrecked earlier this year.

The accident happened May 15 on McBride Road in Mount Airy. Gregory Bledsoe was driving the Buick Century when he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, ran off the roadway and crashed head-on into a tree at 45 mph.

Shane Bledsoe, 9, and Braylon Bledsoe, 12, both died in the accident.

According to records, Beldsoe was driving with a permanently suspended license.

In Kernen’s view, “liberals think that just for the way that Fox News presents news, they think that they should be prosecuted,” before adding that the “mainstream media has been presenting propaganda from the other side.”

Sarah Palin and GOP presidential hopeful Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann. But what are the motivations for these comments?

According to Ann Coulter, it’s not done in the name of humor. Instead, it is done to intentionally drum up publicity for shows like Maher’s. On Monday night’s “Red Eye,” Coulter questioned why so much time was devoted to these statements from Maher and his guests.

“[I] am sick of this show getting so much free publicity just because they use the f-word, the c-word, say something stupid,” Coulter said. “It is exactly what liberals falsely accuse me of all the time. You just put in that thing about the Jersey Girls so people will complain to get publicity. Well no, all they are saying is ‘I hate Michele Bachman,’ ‘I hate Sarah Palin.’ Except they’re saying, ‘I [expletive] hate Michele Bachmann,’ ‘I [expletive] hate Sarah Palin.’ And then conservative blogs and this show say, ‘Oh, they use the f-word,’ and then they get 8 billion times more viewers. Why aren’t we talking about your show that will lead into this show? It is ‘Five at Five’ or the two-hour feature film, ‘Greg Gutfeld on Fox.’”

Haboob Two: Second Giant Dust Storm Engulfs Arizona During Rush Hour

PHOENIX (AP) — A giant wall of dust rolled through the Phoenix area on Monday, turning the sky brown, creating dangerous driving conditions and delaying some airline flights.

The dust, also known as a haboob in Arabic and around Arizona, formed in Pinal County and headed northeast, reaching Phoenix at about 5:30 p.m.

‘I’m Dead! Bye!’ Skydiver Films His Own 15,000 Ft. Free Fall

The air whipped over his body as gravity pulled him to the ground in an exhilarating, controlled fall. At 15,000 ft. above ground, he pulled his parachute. And that’s when an awesome jump turned to awful.

At that moment, Holmes’s parachute malfunctioned. He started an incredible free fall traveling at an extreme rate of speed and headed for some vegetation. Eventually, he crashed. And survived.

The entire incident was caught on a helmet camera, where Holmes can be heard declaring “I’m dead!“ and ”Bye!”:

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R) said he thinks Perry will run, and Perry himself seems more inclined than ever, telling the Des Moines Register that he now sees the race as his calling.
