Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

King City Council takes a stand - A unanimous vote to keep the Christian flag at Veterans Memorial

(By Leslie Bray Evans, The Stokes News) - Julienne Ratcliff, a King resident who often speaks at King City Council meetings, came to the August meeting with no plans to address the council.

Until she saw Item 10 on Monday night’s agenda: “Discussion on removal of Christian flag from Veterans Memorial.”

“What are we going to do about these people?” she passionately asked the council during Public Comments. “They’re unbelievers.” Ratcliff urged the members to take a stand.

And that they did.
